Originally brought up and educated in Fife, Ewen moved to Aberdeen in the 1970s to attend Aberdeen University where he graduated Bachelor of Music, prior to attending Northern College to complete his teaching qualification. Very early on in his time in Aberdeen, he made the decision to settle here – much to the horror of his family. Prior to the various by-passes we now take for granted, the journey to and from Fife was significant.
Ewen spent his career at Mackie Academy, Stonehaven first as a music teacher, moving to Principal Teacher of Music then Principal Teacher of Guidance prior to moving into management. Although he has been a kirk organist for over forty years, his main musical interests are in musical theatre and he considers it a privilege to have musically directed most of the theatre companies in and around Aberdeen. Over the years he could also be found as resident pianist in local hotels and restaurants. On retiring, the ‘venue’ has changed a bit as he is now resident organist at Aberdeen Crematorium. When not doing things musical, Ewen enjoys life in the country with his partner and the holiday opportunities made available since retirement from the constraints of the timings of school holidays.Back to Staff
